Quick answer
The Bandai China Limited MG Astray Cross Contrast Colors Black offers a unique black colorway and rarity that standard MG Astray kits lack, but comes at a higher price and limited availability.
Why the Cross Contrast Colors Black stands out
The Cross Contrast Colors Black edition is a China-exclusive release, meaning you won't find this color variant in standard retail channels. Its black color scheme is a deliberate departure from the usual red or blue Astray frames, giving your collection a distinctive look that few other builders will have.
Because it's a limited run, availability is scarce. If you miss the initial drop, finding one later often means paying a premium on the secondary market.
What you give up with the exclusive
The higher price is the main trade-off. At USD 138.88 (compared to a catalog comparison price of USD 224.00), it's already more expensive than a standard MG Astray kit, which typically retails for around USD 40-60. You're paying for the exclusivity and the unique colorway, not additional parts or improved engineering.
Standard MG Astray kits are widely available and often include multiple color options or decals. If you prefer to customize your own paint job, a standard kit gives you more flexibility for less money.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Rarity: The Cross Contrast Colors Black is a China-exclusive limited edition. Standard MG Astray kits are mass-produced and widely available.
- Color: The exclusive comes in a unique black color scheme. Standard kits offer the classic red or blue Astray colors, or you can paint them yourself.
- Price: The exclusive is priced at USD 138.88 (catalog comparison USD 224.00). Standard MG Astray kits cost roughly USD 40-60.
